CEO Transavia gives up (airplane) seat to Micha
Transavia is a proud participant in JINC Bosses of tomorrow. Today our CEO Marcel de Nooijer gave up his seat for a day to Micha (16), a student at the Ir Lelylyceum in Amsterdam. Transavia is proud to be among the bosses of companies who give up their seat for a day to a child who can have a unique experience. A total of 550 'bosses' in the Netherlands are participating in the JINC event this year.
With Baas van Morgen, Transavia and JINC, a non-profit organization that fights inequality of opportunity among young people, want to draw attention to the fact that a successful career is not for everyone. It is important to support children who could use a helping hand towards a good start on the labor market.
An exciting day awaited our young boss today. He was picked up from school by our CEO Marcel de Nooijer. The first part of the program was a conversation with Marcel, with IT area lead Kenneth Konigferander and engineer Maarten Slinger. This was followed by a tour of the Hangar. That is the place where the Transavia aircraft are maintained. In the hangar, Micha not only saw the inside of the aircraft, but also got a look INTO the engines of these flying giants. Micha, who would like to work in IT later, was impressed by the technology that could be viewed in the 'belly' of the device and especially the computers that are in a device.
Equal opportunities in ICT and technology
After a tour, Micha, together with Kenneth and Maarten, thought about how we can interest more young people in a job in ICT or technology and how everyone gets equal opportunities. Because that also plays an important role in aviation. Micha said that after this day he has seen more of an airplane than anyone he knows. He learned about the most important instruments in the cockpit, how an aircraft engine works and also got a look into 'the belly' of the aircraft. He also thought with Transavia about how we can give more young people opportunities to work at Transavia in ICT or technology.
A society in which everyone participates fully
Marcel de Nooijer is enthusiastic about this day: 'JINC shows with Baas van Morgen how important it is to invest in young people. That also fits with the goal we pursue; an inclusive society in which everyone participates fully. In addition to this initiative, many Transavia colleagues participate in JINC initiatives such as job application training, guiding students in career choices and guided tours that focus on learning new words. I am happy that I had the opportunity today to give up my place to this great Micha.'
Our boss for a day also experienced an impressive day. 'I would like to work here, the work is fun and so are the people. In a short time I have learned a lot about how an aircraft engine works and I now also know what happens when an aircraft is struck by lightning," says Micha. Marcel de Nooijer: 'It was an educational day for me, my colleagues and also for Micha. Micha has gained even more insight into what he wants in the future and has also given us great tips on how we can better reach young people for a job with us in ICT or technology. I am convinced that Micha will get there.'
