Presentation of the Peter J. Legro Award 2020

Summary

The annual Peter J. Legro Award was presented this week. This Award was created for charities for which colleagues work in their spare time and in honor of our esteemed former director Peter J. Legro. Cabin Attendant Karin Gombert received the Award and the associated amount of money, which will entirely benefit the 'Beauty Bank' Foundation she founded.

The Peter J. Legro Award

'The social involvement of Transavians is great and this is reflected in the numerous charities in which colleagues are actively involved,' says Dirk Neelis, financial director and chairman of the Award jury. 'This social involvement fits in seamlessly with our values and embodies what we believe in: “Everyone deserves to be seen”. This social character is also completely in the spirit of Peter J. Legro. He was CEO of Transavia and patron of the Peter Pan holiday club foundation between 1979 and 2002, he died in March 2018.

Positive social contribution

Dirk Neelis: 'Peter J. Legro saw better than anyone that if you consciously provide space for fulfilling a social role and leave the initiative to the people themselves, enormous energy is released. For that reason, this Award is dedicated to him. We also believe it is our responsibility to make a positive contribution to a number of important social challenges such as reducing our footprint and an inclusive society. I am extremely proud that we have this colleague on board, and with her many other Transavians who contribute to a great social cause.'

When choosing the winner, the jury takes into account, among other things, the organization's commitment to a better world and the degree of connection with the environment. Last year, the first Peter J. Legro award went to Aviation Without Borders.

The Beauty Bank Foundation

The second Peter J. Legro Award was presented to the BeautyBank Foundation by Alexandra Legro, the daughter of Peter J. Legro. With her BeautyBank, our colleague Karin Gombert gives people who are struggling more self-esteem and self-confidence so that they receive support in building a new future. An original initiative that suits Transavia: everyone deserves to be seen. The BeautyBank has a good destination for the €10,000. The Foundation invests this amount in an online system that allows the team to collaborate faster and more efficiently in connecting the growing group of clients and beauty professionals.

Proud of colleagues

Transavia is proud of its social involvement, but above all of its colleagues who are committed to this area. In addition to the BeautyBank, Trees for All, Stichting D-support, Stichting ACD and Dierenambulance Utrecht also competed for the Award.
