Sunweb Group and Transavia strengthen cooperation
Exploration started for corona-free travel corridor to Crete
Sunweb Group and Transavia have strengthened their collaboration by concluding a contract for a large number of seats for Sunweb holiday trips in the coming summer period. They are also working on a plan for setting up a corona-free travel corridor from Schiphol to Crete. The developments surrounding the vaccines and the great need of Dutch people to go on holiday again as soon as possible give both parties confidence that travel will resume this summer.
The corona-free travel corridor, initially to Crete, consists of a package tour from Sunweb that flies with Transavia. This concerns a holiday where holidaymakers are tested several times for the virus. It is also the intention that travelers mainly stay at their own resort, where a lot of attention is obviously paid to distance and hygiene. Discussions with the government and partners about the corona-free travel corridor are in full swing.
Both companies are confident that they can provide their customers with great holidays again this summer season and symbolize this trust by flying a kite. In addition to purchasing a large number of chairs per year, the success of the collaboration is mainly due to the total product that both companies can offer together. Especially at this time, the parties believe that positivity and perspective are needed after a long period in which little was possible and traveling was often seen in a negative light due to corona. A corona-free corridor is the first step in that direction.
Mattijs ten Brink, CEO of Sunweb Group: 'Especially in a market that is constantly changing, we are proud that our collaboration with Transavia, which has been successful for more than 20 years, offers Dutch holidaymakers the opportunity to experience beautiful destinations to discover. We believe that everyone deserves a nice holiday, because it is important to recharge, relax and put everyday life on hold," says ten Brink.
Travel hunger
Marcel de Nooijer, CEO Transavia: 'Our partners are important to us, together we can put a positive spin on this drastic period. For us, this kite symbolizes flying again soon, and it also reaches higher with more headwind. We are therefore pleased that Sunweb Group is expressing its confidence in both the recovery of the travel sector and in our airline. We see that there is a huge appetite for travel. Passengers can't wait to discover beautiful destinations again and look ahead with their family or friends. This is also evident from research we recently conducted. After being able to hug each other again, traveling is high on the wish list. Safe travel is obviously an important condition, which is why we pay a lot of attention to this.'
Travel safely
Safe travel has the highest priority throughout the sector and both parties are jointly looking at how safety around travel, and therefore the possibilities, can be further increased. This includes more intensive testing and continuing to call on the government for uniform European regulations. This prevents uncertainties for passengers and prevents people from traveling via other countries. According to Transavia and Sunweb Group, this benefits no one, not the traveler and not the Dutch travel sector.
The call from both CEOs is therefore to work together, throughout the sector, to ensure that we can offer our travelers the prospect of a holiday or other trip again as soon as possible. This travel corridor to Crete will be a first beautiful and hopeful step in this regard.
