Transavia employees support GGD with vaccinations
Transavia employees, mainly stewards and stewardesses, will support the various regional GGDs in the national corona vaccination campaign. This is an immense operation in which millions of Dutch people will also be vaccinated in the coming months to get the coronavirus under control. That way the knife cuts both ways; Vaccination can be scaled up more quickly as soon as necessary and Transavia, like many other companies in the aviation and travel sector, benefits from the pace of vaccination being as high as possible. This continues to pave the way for flying.
The availability of new vaccines ensures an increase in vaccination capacity at the GGD, which will be able to vaccinate more and more people in the coming period. The GGD has therefore approached Transavia with the question whether its staff, who currently fly much less, would like to volunteer to support the corona vaccination campaign. Spread across 25 regions throughout the country, these employees will be called upon to work at the vaccination locations as hosts or administrative assistants. These employees are expected to be deployed in April and May 2021.
The Netherlands open again
Both the GGD and Transavia want to do everything they can to vaccinate as many people as possible as quickly as possible. Petra de Ruiter, operational director at Transavia: “We are happy to contribute to vaccination so that together we can get the coronavirus under control more quickly. Many of our people have been at home for a long time and are longing to get back to doing what they want most; to fly. This week we started the internal survey and we expect that many employees will want to participate. After all, the sooner people are vaccinated, the sooner the Netherlands can 'open' and the travel industry and many other sectors can restart.”
The GGD is also enthusiastic about the collaboration with Transavia. “Everyone must have received their first injection in July,” says Tiemen Bloemberg, program director of Testing and Vaccination at GGD GHOR Netherlands. “We need more employees for that. We want to vaccinate faster and more as soon as sufficient vaccines are supplied for this. And we can really use these extra hands for that. The enthusiastic reactions of Transavia employees and their efforts at the GGD locations make it visible to everyone how we can only fight corona together.”
