Transavia is committed to growth in the Dutch market

Summary

Today, Transavia Netherlands announced its decision to focus on growth in the home market, in accordance with the AIR FRANCE KLM strategy 'Trust Together'.

Transavia will continue to invest in further brand positioning, digital innovation and the fleet, which will strengthen its position as the leading low-cost carrier with the largest market share in the Netherlands. This change in focus, combined with the uncertainty of the long-term prospects for Munich operations, has led Transavia to terminate flights from the Munich hub as of the end of October 2017. Customers who want to fly from the Munich base can book and fly up to and including the last flight in October.

Jean-Marc Janaillac, CEO of AIR FRANCE KLM stated: “Within the new AIR FRANCE KLM strategy 'Trust Together', Transavia's priority is to further develop both its home markets, the Netherlands and France. Terminating the base in Munich is part of this strategy.”

Pieter Elbers, CEO of KLM: “By joining the forces of KLM and Transavia, we will be able to take an even stronger position in the Dutch market. It also enables Transavia to deploy its resources in such a way that this change can be implemented more quickly. Together we have already announced 25 new destinations for the 2017 summer timetable. Together with both companies, we now offer more than 280 routes in Europe.”

“It is in our DNA to always look for new opportunities, while at the same time adapting our business to new market conditions,” says Mattijs ten Brink, Managing Director of Transavia. “Based on our strong brand appreciation and high customer loyalty in the Netherlands, our stations in Amsterdam and Rotterdam are expected to grow by 10% in 2017, while Eindhoven is expected to experience growth of 20% this year. Unfortunately, our base in Munich will no longer contribute to our strategy. I realize that this is a great disappointment for all our colleagues and partners, especially those in Munich,” he added. “They have worked very hard for our customers, and will of course continue to do so until October 2017. I would like to thank everyone emphatically for this great effort.”

Transavia continues to demonstrate its commitment to its customers, partners and employees. Pilots, cabin crew and ground crew will receive all the help and support needed to make this transition. Customers who want to fly from the Munich base can book and fly up to and including the last flight in October.
