Transavia shares the story behind the retro style of Airbus

Summary

In honour of its 60th anniversary, Transavia is launching the mini documentary “From then to now: the T is timeless”. It focuses on the iconic retro house style that is being brought back to life on the Airbus A321neo. Designer Thijs Postma (92) explains how his original design from 1966 came about. His colleague Roland Drewel shows how this classic design has been translated onto a modern aircraft. The film is now available to view on Transavia's YouTube channel.

In the video, Transavia takes the viewer on a journey through the past and present of our brand identity. From Postma's initial sketches to Drewel's translation onto a modern aircraft, the story shows how a brand can remain true to itself while continuing to innovate. The retro corporate identity highlights the recognisable elements that have made Transavia great, such as the colour green and the T on the tail, which are so iconic.

A special moment of welcome

The Airbus A321neo with retro corporate identity arrived at Schiphol on 24 July 2025. Hundreds of aviation fans were present to give the aircraft a festive welcome. For Postma, this was an emotional moment: he saw his original design come to life again on a modern aircraft for the first time. His enthusiastic reaction, also shown in the video, emphasises the timeless power of the design.

Fleet renewal

The anniversary aircraft is part of an extensive fleet renewal programme. Over the coming years, Transavia will replace all Boeing 737s with quieter and more fuel-efficient Airbus A321neos and later Airbus A320neos. Thirteen Airbus A321neos are now in service. Number 14 is expected at the end of 2025 and will feature Transavia's new livery.

The mini-documentary is now available on Transavia's YouTube channel.
