Unwanted access to a Transavia mailbox

Summary

Transavia continuously monitors the IT landscape to track abnormal activities. We recently discovered that there has been unwanted access to a Transavia mailbox. After investigation, it turned out that this mailbox contained a file containing personal data of some of the Transavia passengers who traveled with us between January 21 and 31, 2015. Transavia has reported this to the Dutch Data Protection Authority.

Even though the data is from early 2015 and does not contain sensitive data such as address details, credit card information and passport information, Transavia informs the passengers involved personally. In a world where more and more happens online, cyber security risks are also increasing. Unfortunately, we are now also confronted with this. We have started an investigation and made improvements to prevent recurrence in the future. We also invest in our information security, which ensures continuous improvement.

This concerns a total of data from 80,000 passengers who traveled with Transavia in the period from 21 to 31 January 2015. The data in the file is: first name, last name, date of birth, flight details, booking number and services that have been booked, such as luggage, skis and wheelchairs. This does not concern sensitive data such as payment details, credit card information, passport information and contact details such as address details, e-mail addresses and telephone numbers.

We have informed the passengers involved via the main booker whose email address we have. For more information, we refer our passengers to our website and we have opened a special telephone number: +31 (0)85-0022627, available from Monday to Friday between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
