Flight training Transavia celebrates first lustrum
Our own flying training Transavia Airline Pilot Program has been around for 5 years. The flying school prepares candidate pilots for a career in the cockpit of a Transavia aircraft. We have been doing this for five years and we will continue to do so in the coming years.
Five years ago, Transavia was faced with a persistent demand for kites. We noticed that airlines were fishing in the same pond for prospective pilots. The outflow of pilots to other airlines was also large. Because we also experienced a decline in quality from other flying schools, we took matters into our own hands.
We decided to invest in the development of our own flight training and to train candidates to become First Officers ourselves. We have done this with great success in recent years and we will continue to do so. It is expected that by around 2025, almost 10% of our entire pilot corps will come from our own training.
Recently we have been busy developing the program and recruiting students. In the long term, the training will be converted so that pilots are trained to become Airbus pilots, as our entire Boeing fleet will be replaced in the coming years with a quieter and more economical Airbus fleet. Investments are also being made in cleaner and cost-saving training aircraft to make the lessons more sustainable.
