Recycling Boeing 737
As part of its fleet renewal, Transavia is saying goodbye to the Boeing 737. The first four aircraft left the fleet at the end of 2024. But what actually happens to an aircraft like this? Where does it go? And what happens to all its parts? Are they thrown away, or can they still be used?
The first Boeing 737 to depart was the PH-XRY. This aircraft was known as the “cigar band” due to its retro livery. On November 5, 2024, it flew to Twente Airport, where it was dismantled by AELS (Aircraft End-of-Life Solutions).
Thousands of parts were carefully removed during the process. Many of these components will be reused in aviation. The engines were returned to Transavia. Other materials are being recycled for various purposes. This circular approach aligns with the ambition to reduce environmental impact. By 2030, Transavia aims to produce 80% less residual waste than it does today.
